ENCANTO CUP RECAP

The matches were held at Maryvale on Saturday, June 14. Our team
put 26 points on the board for a decisive 3-1/2 point victory over second
place Encanto. Papago was third with 16 points and Maryvale had 7.
CCMGA last held the cup in 1999. These matches between the city's
four major courses (Aguila has yet to participate) have been played for
more than 20 years. Cave Creek will be the host course in 2007.

CONGRATULATIONS….

to Kevin and Terry Kennealy who won the right to represent CCMGA
in the AGA's annual Club Team Championship by taking net honors
in our Two Man Scramble held on July 9. Their next hurdle will be a
qualifier later this year to determine which teams will vie for the
championship at Moon Valley CC in December.

We'll be rooting for you.

PLAN AHEAD

You can double your tournament pleasure in August. Our ABCD
Two Better Balls of the Foursome Tournament will be held on Sunday
the 6th. Eighteen holes, gross and net. A & B players will use the blue
tees, C& D players, the whites. Entry forms are available in the CCMGA
box in the pro shop or on ccmga.net.

On Saturday the 19th, it's out of the heat and into the cool pines for our
Two Man Best Ball Tournament at Prescott Country Club. This is a
Member/Member, Member/Guest event with an 8:00 AM shotgun start.
The $55 entry fee includes golf, cart, range balls, box lunch and $5 for
the prize pool. Entry forms are available in the CCMGA box in the pro
shop or on ccmga.net. .Our club champion for 2006 will be determined
at the close of our second "major" of the year to be held on Saturday
and Sunday, September 24 and 25. Look for more details on our Club
Championship following the Prescott tourney.

Especially for new members…..Our long standing eligibility rule for our
"major" tournaments states, "To be eligible to play in any of our 'major'
tournaments, a player must have, within the past 12 months, played in
at least two official CCMGA tournaments in which the scores were
posted for handicap purposes."

RAZZ events are not considered official tournaments

WHERE'S A MONSOON WHEN YOU NEED ONE

Acting Superintendent, Mark Derbes, reminds us that Mother Nature can
be fickle when it comes to what he calls the "TRANSITION."

That's the time the overseeded rye grass gets uncomfortable and dies making
room for our common Bermuda to get the light, water, and nutrients it needs
to flourish. Trouble is, Mother Nature has been uncooperative. Little or no rain,
and a late start to the really hot weather, let the rye hang around preventing the
Bermuda from "seeing the light." The result has been some weak and thin growth
in some fairways. And Cave Creek is not the only course having this trouble.

Nevertheless, Mark reminds us that Bermuda loves the monsoon season that
will soon be upon us. Until then, he and his crew will be giving nature a hand by
aerifying, watering and fertilizing the fairways. A little understanding on our part
 would help, too.

NEW RAZZ RULES

1. Participants must be current CCMGA members.
2. Guests. A member may have one guest at each
RAZZ. However, a guest may play only twice in
a calendar year. Each guest must have a valid
USGA handicap or play at scratch.
3. All RAZZ participants must complete a RAZZ
Entry Form that has been properly initialed by
    the receiving staff.
4. Format and tees will be announced prior to the
beginning of play. Unless otherwise announced
by the RAZZ committee, individual events will be
    played.
5. The entry fee will be $10 for the game of the day.
Skins are optional, $5 gross and $5 net. Sklns
winners will be paid in cash.
6. Flights will be divided into A, B, C, and D.
Players with handicaps from 0 to 9 will play from
the blue and white tees on alternate weeks.
Players with handicaps of 9.1 and above will play
from the white tees using handicaps based on
their USGA handicap index. To better balance
the number of players in each flight, handicap
ranges in the B and C flights may vary.
7. Hole-in-One Challenge. The entry fee is $1.00.
Your name must appear on the hole-in-one sign
up sheet to be eligible to receive your winnings
should you make an ace during tournament play.
All accumulated funds are held until an ace is
formally recorded. Should more than one be
made in a single tournament, the funds will be
divided equally between all winners. All
accumulated funds will be paid out.

CCMGA FUNDS COURSE IMPROVEMENTS.

In keeping with one of CCMGA's long standing goals – "….to fund improvements
subject to budgetary restraints…." we've been able to provide Acting Superintendent,
Mark Derbes, with $2200 in discretionary funds for "wish list" items.

The Greens Committee will continue to work with Mark on ways we can help him
fund other needed course amenities not included in the city's bare bones budget
