COMING ATTRACTIONS

Don't miss out. The field is filling fast for our thirty-six hole
Eclectic Tournament. This popular format lets you post your best
score on each hole either day. For more details see the entry blank
on our website, ccmga.net, or pick one up in the CCMGA box in the
pro shop. The entry deadline is April 11.

Look for a scramble to get in our Two Man Scramble Tournament on
Saturday May 22. In addition to the usual opportunities for prizes,
the net winners of this event will represent CCMGA in the AGA's
annual Club Team Championship to be held in December. CCMGA will
underwrite the winners' costs for this event.

Don Henkel, last years overall champion, says he will be back to
defend his President's Cup title on June 5 and 6. This is our first
"major" of the year, and we expect many of our new members to be
challenging for the top spot along with the usual suspects.

EXTRA-ADDED ATTRACTION!

Match play aficionados should plan to be in town during July,
August and September. Plans are well underway for a Match Play
Tournament set to begin on July 11 and end on September 18. The
field will be limited to 64 players. Ideally, there will be four
flights of 16. Look for more details on our website and postings
in the pro shop and grill beginning May 1.

CAVE CREEK TURNS 20

In honor of Cave Creek's 20th Anniversary, mark your calendar for
a special July 4th Tournament. Diane, Mike and your board are
working to come up with a unique event that will be enjoyable
for players at all skill levels. Look for more details in a month
or so.

It is a tribute to the foresight of city officials in l984, the
course designer, dedicated people in the pro shop and on the
maintenance staff, and a host of public links players who have
made Cave Creek, once a city landfill, the most popular of the
city's 18 hole courses.

CCMGA adds a hearty "well done."

BUNKER NOURISHMENT COMING

Continuing CCMGA's tradition of funding course improvements when
possible, your board recently approved the purchase of 25 tons of
sand to be used to give our bunker shots a bit more cushion. Which
bunkers will get a face lift is up to Bob Lytle and his crew. Bob
has expressed his thanks to the board and all CCMGA members for
this much needed help.

SPEAKING OF SAND……..

Thanks to Jim Denmark and Creekside Construction, Bob Lytle has
been able to cross off another item on his wish list. You will find
it in the form of an all weather sand box located just off the 10th
tee. It's not there for looks. It's there to make it more convenient
for all players to fill the sand bottles on all the carts. And to use
the sand to fill the divots that will be cropping up as the Bermuda
starts to green up.

BUY TIME!

Diane tells us the Pro Shop will be having a "Spring Sale" on
April, 16, 17 and 18. She says you can look for bargains across the
board, and that items you don't see can be special ordered. Sounds like
a good time to cash in those gift certificates that have been creating
a bulge in your wallet.

Need to sell some clubs or looking to buy? Check out the "Classifieds."
The listing costs you nothing, and ccmga.net has a wide audience. While
you're at it, also give a look at the news section, links to other golf
organizations, "Go Direct," CCMGA poll, the Archives and Golf Encyclopedia.
You'll find there's a lot more to the site than just tournament scores and
the Forum.

LET'S REVIEW…..

With many new members on board, and our first major coming up, it's probably
a good time to be re-acquainted with our Tournament Handicap Policy which
has been in effect since May 1, 2003.

The policy states: "The lowest three of five scores in sanctioned CCMGA
home or away tournaments, or your current AGA handicap, whichever is lower,
will determine a member's handicap for all tournament play."

(Note: Members playing in their first CCMGA tournament will receive their
AGA handicap. For members with one, but less than five, tournament scores,
the following formula will be used to determine their lowest tournament
score: one of one, one of two, two of three and three of four.)

SLOW PLAY CAN BE CURED IF YOU REALLY WANT IT TO BE.

An in-depth study of slow play by the USGA concluded that "very few golfers
do this (hold up play) intentionally; they are just thoughtless or have
never learned to play alertly." The study also noted that "If every player
would show the same courtesy to those playing behind as is shown to his own
group - everyone would benefit." Following are the highlights of that study:

The chief cause of slow play is time lost on the putting green. As much as two
minutes can be saved on every green if:

1.You park your cart where someone does not have to walk back to get it.
2. On approaching the green, take any other club you may need with your putter
If you have the wrong club, tell your playing partners they may play out of turn.
3. Once on the green, study the line of your putt immediately unless doing so
   interferes with another player.
4. Never replay a missed putt; never mark your score while on the green; and leave
   immediately when play is completed.
5. The player who has the honor on the next tee should go there immediately. Let
   someone else bring the cart.

FROM TEE TO GREEN
1. Put head covers on while walking or riding to your next shot.
2. Take the cart directly to the ball that is "away." Once there, the other player
should take the clubs he thinks he will need and go to his ball.
3. Check your watch frequently so you can make the players with you aware of whether
   you are playing too slowly.

The report concluded "that there is no single thing that can be done to speed up play.
Playing, without the annoyance of constant delay, involves many little things. Some
will save minutes, others will save seconds. But when they are all added up, a half
hour can easily be taken off the time it usually takes to play a round of golf.
Unfortunately, if only one group plays without consideration, the time wasted
creates delay for all the players behind."
