CERTIFICATEGATE REVISITED

Your board continues to work with the Parks and Recreation Department
on an acceptable method of distributing and redeeming the merchandise
certificates we issue as tournament prizes. Dale Larsen, Assistant
Director of the department, is now working directly with the board,
and he will continue to do so until a permanent solution is found.
At the present time, what Mr. Larsen describes as a "brief experiment"
is in place. Certificates won in the Club Championship Tournament can
be picked up in the pro shop until July 7th. Certificates not picked
up by that date will be mailed to the holders at the city's expense.
In the meantime, Parks and Rec. will be developing procedures for the
handling of gift certificates that will address the accountability
issues raised by the city's auditing department. When the pro shop
staff has been trained in these procedures they will be put into
place, hopefully in the next few weeks. According to Mr. Larsen, work
also is proceeding on a long term solution; a computerized point of
sale system.

Your board's goal is a system that is "user friendly" to all our members.
Unfortunately, this is a complex issue, and we appreciate your patience
while the details are worked out to our satisfaction.

CHECK YOUR CALENDARS

Our annual meeting and banquet will be held this year on Friday November 14
at the Postal Workers Union Hall at 3720 W. Greenway. A pre-tournament
reception will be held on Friday November 7 at a location to be announced.
Look for more details on both events in the fourth quarter newsletter.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR

The home course advantage helped as the Encanto team took the Encanto Cup
this year. Papago took second, our team finished third and Maryvale was
fourth. We were well represented by Captain Craig Munsey, Ron Boothby,
Frank Covello, Tony Felner, Ken Kerner, Pete Knezinskis, Ken and
Steve Demarcus, Rich Marten, Dave Simmers, Scott Weyrauch and Fran Wolcott.

THIRD QUARTER TOURNAMENTS

for the ABCD Texas Scramble on Sunday July 13 Entries close on July 6 at
5:00 PM. In this event all players hit a tee ball and the best drive is
selected. From that point each player plays his own ball until he holes
out. All four scores count. A and B players will play from the blue tees.
C and D players will use the white tees. Players will get 80% of their
handicaps. There will be CTPs and an optional skins game. The entry fee
is $20 per player.

Our member-member, member-guest "Beat the Heat" tournament will be at
Prescott Country Club again this year. The date is Saturday August 2nd.

differential is 10 strokes. All play will be from the gold tees. The $57

prize pool. Also available will be an optional team skins game and
pari-mutuel wagering. The field size is limited to 40 teams. The entry

gross and net. For each hole, your score is the best number you posted
in the two days of play. All players will play from the blue tees. Optional
skins games both days in all flights, $20 gross and $20 net. CTP's on all

players, guests included, have verifiable USGA handicaps. Players who
do not meet that requirement will play at scratch.
