LOOKING AHEAD...
Still time to make the April 10 entry deadline for the ABCD Texas
Scramble which will be played on Sunday, April 17. In this format
you select the best drive, and all four players play out their own
ball from that point. All four scores count. For more details see
the entry blank on our website or in the CCMGA box in the pro shop.
The President’s Cup Tournament, our first 'Major of the year, will
be played the weekend of May 14/15. To be eligible for any of our
“major” tournaments a player must have, within the past 12 months,
played in at least two official CCMGA tournaments in which the scores
were posted for handicap purposes. Jerry Keith is the defending
overall champion.
For a change of pace try the Two Man Scramble Tournament on Saturday,
June 11. Good putters are much in demand for this one, along with long,
straight drivers of the ball.
SPEAKING OF TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY...
A reminder, especially for new members, that handicaps for all
tournament players are determined by the following policy:
"The lowest three of five scores in sanctioned
CCMGA home or away tournaments or your current AGA handicap in effect
on the closing date for tournament entries, whichever is lower, will
determine a member’s handicap for tournament play."
(Note: Members playing in their first CCMGA tournament will receive
their AGA handicap. For members with one, but less than five, tournament
scores, the following formula will be used to determine their lowest
tournament score: one for one, two for two, two for three and three
for four.)
AVOID THE RUSH - PREPAY
Beginning with President’s Cup entries, CCMGA members will be able to
pre-pay their tournament fees, cart and green fees anytime prior to
the tournament entry deadline.
And when you do pre-pay, thank the people in the Pro Shop for their
part in helping us end the long lines on tournament days.
ANOTHER INCENTIVE TO SIGN UP EARLY
Ask any tournament chairman, there is a lot of work to be done in advance
of tournament day. That’s why we have an entry deadline on every entry
form. Unfortunately, these deadlines are being ignored by more and more
members.
To discourage this tardiness, and give the tournament committee the time
necessary to prepare for a well run outing, the Board has approved a $5
surcharge on all late entries beginning with the President’s Cup.
SATURDAY RAZZ NOW *OPEN*
Well aware that our members are our best salesmen, the Board has opened
the Saturday RAZZ to any player with a valid USGA handicap.
Here’s your chance to “market” CCMGA where the action is. Pass the word
to friends or neighbors to join you for a round, or make up their own
foursomes. The RAZZ is fun and well run. With a little encouragement
from our members, it’s likely non-members will want to see what else
CCMGA has to offer.
It’s certainly worth our best shot.
ON THE DRAWING BOARD
A Match Play Tournament, A Nine Hole Shootout and possibly a two-day
Invitational to be played at Cave Creek and Aguila. Watch our website,
ccmga.net, for more details as they become available.
A WORD TO THE WISE
CCMGA granted its members the privilege of Internet posting in 2002.
The intent then, as it is now, was that this privilege be used for
occasional postings only.
Today, Internet posting is being abused by a growing number of members.
In some cases it appears it would be impossible to play the number of
rounds posted in the time frames shown.
Almost every course is equipped for computer score postings, and that’s
where the USGA, the AGA and your Board expect the vast majority of your
scores to be posted.
The Board hopes compliance with the clear definition of Internet
postings will be voluntary. If not, CCMGA, as do all AGA member clubs,
has the option of suspending this privilege.
2005 ENCANTO CUP
These annual matches between teams from Aguila, Cave Creek, Encanto, Maryvale,
and Papago will be played on June 18 at Papago. The 12 man teams will have four
junior gross players, four junior net players, two senior gross players and
two senior net players. Cave Creek’s team will be selected by CCMGA President,
Ken Kerner. Encanto is the defending champion.
EXPIRED GIFT CERTIFICATES
Gift certificates used as tournament prizes are purchased by CCMGA from the city.
These certificates expire one year from the date they are issued.
Recent negotiations with the city, initiated by CCMGA, have resulted in the
proceeds from expired certificates being returned to your association. These
proceeds may be used to purchase new certificates or merchandise prizes for
our tournaments or junior golf events.
Any claim by a member that his certificate expired due to circumstances
beyond his control will be reviewed by the Board.
OUTSIDE AGENCIES
With the completion of Resident Pro Mike Swartz’s new office in the Grill,
the old trailer office will be removed so that site can be prepared for
construction of a new cart barn. The new barn will be equipped to service
the new fleet of electric carts coming later this year….Cave Creek will
share in the funds made available by the Golf Division’s debt re-financing.
These funds will allow for some course and pro shop improvements that have
been on hold…..
More visible hazard markings and 150 yard stripes on cart paths are the result
of a team effort by CCMGA board members and Resident Pro, Mike Swartz…In the
fairway or on the green, fix a divot or ball mark and one more. Think of how
much fairer the course would play if every player took the five or 10 seconds
it takes to do that repair work.
NINETEENTH HOLE
"It is a wonderful tribute to the game or to the dottiness of the people who
play it that for some people somewhere there is no such thing as an
insurmountable obstacle, an unplayable course, the wrong time of day or year."
